Queensland's flood disaster has forced the closure of both the Supreme and District courts in Brisbane.

A spokesperson from the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General told Lawyers Weekly that the courts have been forced to adjourn all criminal and civil matters which were scheduled for hearing over the next three days (12 - 14 January), unless the parties can agree to dispose of the matter in an alternative fashion.

However, for particularly urgent matters, the courts are offering to hold hearings electronically or over the phone.
