FOR THE second consecutive year, Brisbane-based firm Hopgood Ganim has been named Employer of Choice by the Queensland Law Society.

The firm took home the award after having introduced a new range of flexible employment policies earlier this year, including changes to paid parental leave, better working from home initiatives and a commitment to providing employees with better technology.

The firm’s managing partner Bruce Humphrys acknowledged that despite the best of intentions, it is not an easy task for a law firm to achieve genuine work-life balance for its employees.

“Hopgood Ganim provides the best environment it can for all of its people, even in a buoyant economy where busyness levels and other factors outside our control make the true work-life balance that we want to implement across the board difficult. We live by the philosophy that happy employees make for a strong and successful [firm].

“We realise that at the moment the legal sector is not necessarily conductive to the work-life balance we aspire to, however we will never stop trying to find ways to improve the benefits we provide to our people, the flexible options we offer, or the general working conditions in and around the office to ensure that we continue to be recognised as the best law firm in Queensland to work,” he said.
