Victorian lawyers are no longer required to complete a statutory declaration when renewing their practising certificate.

Amendments to the Legal Profession Act 2004 that commenced this week mean that practitioners only need to sign a declaration to confirm the correctness of information on their renewal forms. Previously, a statutory declaration was required.

The Legal Services Board of Victoria delayed posting renewal forms from mid-March until today (1 April) to incorporate the change.

The deadline for the lodgement of renewal forms is 30 April.
