Magic Circle firm Clifford Chance has this week announced plans to launch its first office in Africa.

As reported by Legal Week, the firm is set to open an office in Morocco to focus on infrastructure and the energy and mining sector while also targeting the major international corporates operating in the region.

The firm's plans to expand in Africa follow recent announcements of its newly established offices in Qatar and Turkey, as well as its Asia growth plan and new Australian presence, established through its merger with Chang, Pistilli & Simmons in Sydney and Cochrane Lishman Carson Luscombe in Perth.

A Clifford Chance partner told Legal Week, "We are looking at the way the world is developing and where the work is going to be. What you see is Clifford Chance shifting a little bit, making selective additions where we see opportunities. It can be viewed as a slight rebalancing and is based on what our clients are doing."
