Brisbane's Carolyn Cipp has been crowned Australia's 'Erin Brockovich' after beating four other finalists to take out the Environmental Justice Society's (EJS) Environmental Crusader Competition.

Cipp's winning entry, "The Future of the Channel Country", highlighted her concerns over the threat of water contamination in and around her family's grazing property in Eromanga, in south-west Queensland.

As the competition winner, Cipp will fly to LA later this year to meet the real Erin Brockovich.

"This issue is not about getting rid of the mining companies but about the mining and grazing industries working together now to protect this ecosystem and, more importantly, the people that choose the area for their permanent homes and futures," Cipp said.

EJS executive secretary Rebecca Jancauskas said Cipp's winning video clip received almost 1500 Facebook 'likes' during the competition period as well as accolades from the competition judging panel.

"Carolyn raises some very real and valid concerns about groundwater contamination and the future of both farming and mining in western Queensland - a topic of interest for our expert advisory committee," Jancauskas said.
