Legislation aimed at ensuring trans-Tasman disputes are more easily resolved has passed through Parliament this week.

Under the changes introduced by the Trans-Tasman Proceedings Amendment and Other Measures Bill, litigation between parties located in Australia and New Zealand will become more like litigation between parties in the same country.

"The reforms will streamline and simplify procedures for the service of process, the recognition and enforcement of judgements, obtaining and giving evidence and appearing remotely," said Attorney-General Robert McClelland.

The bill amends the Trans-Tasman Proceedings legislation to mirror the equivalent legislation in New Zealand.
