After members of the live cattle industry voiced their outrage over the Government's temporary ban on live exports, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, has announced a $3 million assistance package for workers whose income has been directly impacted by the suspension.
"I understand that the decision of the Government to suspend trade to Indonesia has made things tough for some people in the industry," said Ludwig.
"Although this assistance will not substitute their full income, it will provide short-term assistance while safeguards for the trade are established."
The assistance package will be backdated to 7 June - the day the export ban was introduced - and will provide financial assistance to individuals for up to 13 weeks.
