She will receive the honour as recognition of her role in reinforcing relations between Australia and France through her long-standing role as a committee member and as president, from 2000 to 2006, of the Queensland chapter of the French Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Recipients of the honour were chosen by the president of France, Nicholas Sarkozy, on the advice of the government. It is bestowed on both French and non-French nationals for distinguished civil or military achievements.

A partner at Allens for 20 years, Harrip said she was deeply honoured to receive the award.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my role in promoting the dynamic relationship between Australia and France," she said.

"France is one of Australia's leading trade and cultural partners, and that is particularly evident in Queensland given our proximity to New Caledonia. I look forward to continuing my involvement in French Australian trade relations into the future."
