MICHAEL ROSE began his term as managing partner of one of the country’s top firms this week, lifted from his role as head of litigation and dispute resolution to one of the top-ranking legal positions in private practice.

Rose was more than ready for the job last week, when he told one member of staff on Friday that he felt as though he was about to walk on to a football field, that he was waiting in the wings, about to start a match.

But far from seeing it as a game, Rose has dedicated himself to meeting every member of staff in the firm’s Australian offices. He is meeting 30 people by 30 people in the upcoming weeks, which will include morning teas amongst other things.

Rose will not be looking for bigger and better offices to match his new title, but will be keeping his current desk on level 24 of the firm’s Sydney office.

Rose was elected managing partner by the AAR partnership in December last year. He said his initial focus will be on clients, people and growth.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with clients, offering each of our partners and staff the opportunity to have an enjoyable and rewarding career, and positioning the firm for further strategic growth markets, particularly in Asia.”

Prior to his role of head of litigation and dispute resolution at the firm, Rose was national staff partner from 2001 to 2004. He has practised in Australia, New York and Hong Kong.
