Sparke Helmore’s lawyers are losing their hair. Don’t get the wrong idea though — they aren’t so stressed they’ve started pulling it out. Rather, they’re getting behind the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave campaign.

The firm’s Melbourne office has taken part in the World’s Greatest Shave for the last three years and this year there were four courageous volunteers: local managing partner Graham Dent, James Johnson, Chris Dent, and James Ferry, who couldn’t bring himself to shave his head but has dyed his silver locks red and green instead.

“People look forward to seeing us bald and ridiculing us. This year we did it in the boardroom and charged a gold coin for people to come and watch,” Graham Dent said.

Dent was philosophical about losing his hair and becoming an object of ridicule.

“It’s sort of like a glimpse into the future — I’m going to end up that way anyway. It’s pretty chilly and I need to wear a beanie sometimes afterwards. But while it’s confronting at first, you get used to it,” he said.

The firm supports the World’s Greatest Shave campaign as part of its SHARE scheme which is designed to makes a positive difference in the communities in which the firm operates nationally. Over the past three years the Melbourne office has raised over $10,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

“Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer and this is a simple way to help,” Dent said.
