QUEENSLAND LAW students are set to trial a mentoring program that will see them teamed up with professionals.

The University of Queensland Law Graduates Association, in partnership with the TC Beirne School of Law, will undergo the trial for final year undergraduate law students.

To begin in 2007, the program will pair up selected students with a legal professional. The students will be encouraged to approach their mentors for practical advice and guidance about studying and practising law.

In order to facilitate the process, mentors will be offered guidance on study techniques; locating job opportunities; choosing a career path and applying legal knowledge to practical situations.

The information provided by the University of Queensland is to be taken as a guide only. Mentors are urged to negotiate their own arrangements with the students involved.

The hope is to, in the long term, encourage the students who are the recipients of the mentoring program to become mentors themselves upon graduation.
