Minter Ellison is establishing its own fully integrated office in Perth following news that 14 of 19 partners will depart the partnership to join US firm Squire Sanders.

MINTER Ellison is establishing its own fully integrated office in Perth following news that 14 of 19 partners will depart the partnership to join US firm Squire Sanders, which announced it is opening in Perth.

Minters said it has amicably ended its association with the Perth firm that has operated under the Minter Ellison name in Western Australia.

"We have no doubt the decision to go our separate ways is the right outcome," chief executive partner John Weber said.

It is understood Minter Ellison invited the Perth firm to become integrated within Minter Ellison, but the partners voted to look at other opportunities first.

"Having a wholly integrated office has been our long held strategy. Through discussions over the past 12 months it has become clear that our two firms have differing commercial objectives in the Western Australian market.

"Our own office in the west will provide seamless services for our international, national and West Australian clients."

The new Minter Ellison Perth office will open in October and will include a four partners from the current Minter Ellison Perth office.

Weber said the wholly integrated Minter Ellison Perth office will deliver top tier, nationally focused and pan-Asian integrated services in energy & resources, project & infrastructure, corporate / M&A, real estate, dispute resolution, insolvency and reconstruction, and finance.

"We believe Perth will be an increasingly important market in the region and accordingly by October we will have a sizable presence with around 10 partners.  Minter Ellison expects to work collaboratively with the new Perth Squire Sanders office whenever possible.

"We wish the new office of Squire Sanders well in its endeavours," Weber said.
