An international dual-degree program has been established between Monash University and the American University’s Washington College of Law (WCL).

The program enables students studying the Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) at Monash to complete their degree at WCL and obtain a Juris Doctor degree from both law schools, and JD students at WCL to complete their degrees at Monash. At the completion of their studies, graduates from the program will be able to be admitted to legal practice in both Australia and the US.

WCL has similar exchange agreements with universities in France, Spain and Canada, but this is its first agreement with an Australian university.

Monash’s faculty of law director, international, Dr Jonathan Clough, said it was a first for an Australian university law school to establish such a program with an international law school.

“This is the first time that law students enrolled at an Australian university have had the opportunity to gain dual JD degrees in different countries by completing one course,” he said.
