Lawyers at Carter Newell have shown off their culinary skills during the firm's 5th annual staff bake-off to raise funds for the Salvation Army, as part of the firm's workplace giving program.

The call for bakers went out a month before the challenge offering the opportunity to win categories including "Best Sweet Dish", "Best Savoury Dish" and "The Stand Out Stirrer" award for best overall dish on the day.

Part of the judging panel was the Salvation Army's public relations business appeal coordinator, Stephen Stein, who declared Michelle Bracken's "Happy Meals" - McDonalds inspired cakes complete with shortcake fries on the side - the overall winner, with Stephanie Byrne and Maria Fitzgerald winning the sweet and savoury divisions respectively.

Staff at Carter Newell were encouraged to donate a gold coin in order to sample the baked goods on offer and managed to raise $500.

"The Salvation Army has been one of the firm's nominated charities for a number of years now and we're proud to be able to support their cause through holding fundraising events like the bake-off," said Carter Newell chief executive officer, Peter Ellender.
