Moray & Agnew has poached a six-member insurance team from Sparke Helmore to further expand its national s presence and open a new office in Perth.

The office officially opened on Tuesday (8 March), with former Sparke Helmore partner Phil Keays appointed to head up the Moray & Agnew Perth presence.

Keays is joined by his team of five including lawyers Dr Brenda McGivern (consultant), Nicola Frampton (special counsel), Tracy Bennett (senior associate), Verginia Serdev (lawyer) and Anna Miolin (graduate lawyer).

Speaking on his second day in the new office, Keays did not delve into why his team left Sparke Helmore but told Lawyers Weekly that Moray & Agnew offered an opportunity they could not refuse.

"Moray & Agnew has a genuine depth of client relationships that it has developed on the eastern seaboard and from my perspective, that presents a fantastic opportunity in the Perth office," he said.

Moray & Agnew's national managing partner Michael Pitt said that the Perth piece completes the firm's national strategy.

The firm now boasts 58 partners, 130 lawyers and offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle and Perth.

These latest appointments follow an announcement by the firm last week that DLA Phillips Fox partner Peter Tredinnick had joined Moray & Agnew in Sydney, alongside special counsel Belinda Marshall.

Keays said his team would focus on building their existing work in commercial insurance, while also seeking to expand the firm's offering on workers compensation and motor vehicle insurance. "Ultimately, we'll expand in the Perth office both in terms of the work we do and the people we have on board," he said.
