ANOTHER top legal name joins Twitter, the global social and business networking site, today.

To speak in Twitter language, Deacons' Sydney chairman Nick Abrahams has predominantly retweeted Deacons' tweets today, as well as a handful pointing fellow Twitter users to articles he has written for The Sydney Morning Herald.

Twitter allows users to "tweet" 140 character updates on any subject, to be viewed by the user's "followers". It's increasingly used by businesses and professionals to network, and stay ahead of industry movements. It's also a social mechanism by which users can liaise with "followers" in short, often pithy updates.

Abrahams is one of just a few high profile lawyers Twittering. So far lawyers have predominantly gone out on their own on Twitter with protective pseudonyms. Others hide behind their law firm name.

Australian law firms including Deacons, Maddocks, Tresscox, DLA Phillips Fox, Blake Dawson and Clayton Utz have signed up to the tool, but the number is growing daily.

It does make sense that Abrahams is ahead of the pack, he is leader of the firm's technology, media and telecommunications practice.
