THE Legal Aid commission will spend almost $2 million of taxpayer money to fit out and lease prime office space in Canberra.
The spend of taxpayers' money comes after revelations the organisation is cash strapped, the Canberra Times reports.
The commission was granted $1.95 million in the ACT budget as a one-off capital grant payment to relocate to a new 4.5 star energy rated building in Canberra.
The State's Attorney General Simon Corbell has approved the $1.95 million to cover the fit-out and moving costs, though the lease has yet to be signed.
