Wall Street gains overnight

Wall Street rallied overnight as company earnings toppled forecasts and the Federal Reserve was optimistic about the economic outlook, keeping interest rates stable. Citigroup jumped 8 per cent after reports it may need more federal bailout money. Meanwhile, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and the Bank of America gained 5.2, 5.4 and 6.5 per cent respectively. Tech stocks, Airlines and automakers also saw gains overnight.

Norton Rose partner appointments

Norton Rose has promoted 12 new lawyers into its partnership, the firm has revealed. It has bolstered its banking practice with the addition of five new partners, while dispute resolution has been handed four. Two new partners have been promoted in the corporate finance group, and one in real estate. The promotions mark a slight decrease on last year’s partner promotions, when 16 lawyers were appointed partners, including five in London.
