Tas lawyer charged with assault

Jimmy Saric appeared in the Hobart Supreme Court after pleading guilty to one count of assault. The court was told Saric was too drunk to be served more alcohol before he attacked a man outside a popular Salamanca bar.

It is understood Saric went outside the bar he was drinking at, and sat down at a table to eat pizza – at a table already occupied. When he was asked to leave by the other patrons, he swore at one of them, before punching a man in the face, fracturing his eye socket and breaking his nose.

Saric's defence counsel, Garth Stevens, told the court his client was stressed in his personal and professional life, and is ill. He said the attack was out of character.

Stevens also said his client had borrowed money to pay for his victim's medical expenses. He claimed this was not an attempt by a wealthy lawyer to buy his way out of trouble, but rather genuine concern for the victim.
