John Yoon, who has worked as an associate at Paul Weiss and Shearman & Sterling before he became professional development manager at Baker & McKenzie, will help give associates a "confidence boost".

AmLaw Asian Lawyer reports Yoon develops workshops to help associates improve tier English and develop better presentations. He can also help associates on an individual basis.

"Yoon digs a little deeper into his motivational toolbox", the story says, "for associates who really need a confidence boost".

Yoon is a believer in neuro-linguistic programming, a new age therapy that has been associated with Tony Robbins. It uses hypnosis and other methods to re-program the mind and remove blocks to mental progress.

According to Yoon, the methods can help lawyers dramatically improve their ability to learn English or communicate effectively with others.

It is unclear exactly what re-programming Yoon's paymasters have mandated him to perform, as RollonFriday reports. However, Bakers' Tokyo managing partner Yoshiaki Muto has been very positive about the results so far: "their English communication and international work skill levels are obviously much higher than before."
