ANOTHER BENEFICIARY from the latest budget, Robert Cameron, was appointed as a new federal magistrate last week.

“[Cameron] brings to his new position considerable experience and expertise in insurance law and commercial litigation,” Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said.

Having practised as a barrister, Cameron specialised in insurance and commercial litigation since entering private practice as a solicitor in 1987, where he worked with Sydney firm Abbott Tout. He became a partner at the firm in 1992.

“I congratulate [Cameron] on his appointment to the Federal Magistrates Court and take great pleasure in wishing him every success in his new position,” Ruddock said.

Cameron is due to take up his appointment on 3 October, and will be based in Sydney. He is one of five recent appointments to the Federal Magistrates Court which were made following an increase of funding under the 2006-07 Budget.

Cameron’s appointment also follows that of a recent federal court judge and two federal magistrates, as part of the Government’s workplace relations reforms.
