WITH THE Toll Patrick takeover and the AGL Alinta merger dominating headlines, 2006 is already shaping up to be an eventful year for mergers and acquisitions, takeovers and public listings.

Australian law firms continue to demonstrate their innovation and technical skill in both the largest and the smallest transactional and litigious matters.

This week, in Lawyers Weeklys Deals and Litigation pages, we feature Addisons Lawyers’ work on the listing of the Cheviot Kirribilly Vineyard — the first publicly listed group to own and operate vineyards in Australia. The section also looks at Coopers Brewery’s successful resistance to Lion Nathan Australia’s takeover bid, assisted by Piper Alderman in South Australia, and Kathryn Everett’s successfully defending Craig Ruddy’s contested win of the 2004 Archibald Prize.
