Folklaw urges readers to keep in mind throughout this article that the calendar was only invented several thousand years ago and that law firms shouldn’t really be expected to be on top of all the latest technology.

That aside, firms really ought to have a strong grasp of how to properly embargo content when breaking news – so, on this point, you may judge.

This week Fox Tucker’s CEO Janet Miller sent out an email announcing a merger between Donaldson Walsh and Fox Tucker, which Lawyers Weekly had already spilled the beans on in late August.

Folklaw was rather hurt that Fox Tucker forgot to send us a courtesy copy (or answer our calls when we tried to seek comment), but, luckily, one of our barrister buddies forwarded the email along.

Our contact was highly amused. Just as they were about to open the email about the merger, they saw a second email fly into their inbox screaming “CORRECTION”.

Our contact assumed the firm was saying, “OMG we didn’t mean to send that out”, but they were actually falling over themselves to tell everyone that they hadn’t realised 1 October was a Wednesday, not a Monday. In the immortal words of US presidential candidate Rick Perry: oops!

Perhaps Fox Tucker should have a listen to Rebecca Black’s YouTube hit Friday, which is renowned for getting the days of the week stuck in everyone’s head with such inspired lyrics as: “Yesterday was Thursday, today is Friday, we-we-we so excited … tomorrow is Saturday, and Sunday comes afterwards.” (Sorry oldies – that’s a Gen Y joke).

What with their awkward public relations mishaps and quirky inability to pick up a phone, Folklaw is getting rather fond of writing stories about Fox Tucker.
