THE ANNUAL conference of the Australian Society for Legal Philosophy, to be held at Auckland University in June, will be used as a springboard from which to re-establish the New Zealand Society for Legal and Social Philosophy.

The conference, for which the theme is The Common Law, should create a closer relationship between that society and its Australian counterpart, organisers said.

The New Zealand Society was active from 1982 to 1995 and included as members the present Chief Justice, Justice Baragwanath, Justice Richardson, Justice Thomas, and a number of other current judges.

Keyynote speakers at the conference include Professor Michael Lobban of Queen Mary University, London; Professor William Lucy of Cardiff University, Wales; and Professor William Simon of Columbia University, New York.
