Mr Ward (pictured), a barrister in Edmund Barton Chambers, is vice-president of the CLA and has been the Australian representative to the organisation since 2008. He was the president of the Law Council of Australia (LCA) in 2011.

“The Law Council applauds the election of Mr Ward, a well-recognised and dedicated member of the Australian legal profession, to this significant role,” LCA president Duncan McConnel said.

Australian Bar Association president Fiona McLeod SC said: “Mr Ward is held in the highest regard and his election as president is well deserved. The association looks forward to working with him in his capacity as [CLA] president.”

The CLA focuses on maintaining and promoting the rule of law throughout the 53 member countries of the Commonwealth.
