Mark Baker-Jones, who was previously special counsel at DLA Piper, joined the mid-sized firm’s Brisbane office as a partner.

Mr Baker-Jones expertise includes climate change law, according to a statement from DibbsBarker.

He is chair of the Queensland Government climate change adaptation partnership and has presented at the United Nations Environment Program and UNESCO on the issue.

Mr Baker-Jones has 14 years’ experience working on land use planning law, as well as land access and land acquisition matters, according to the statement.

“His environmental law practice encompasses planning, regulation, enforcement and prosecution work in relation to contamination, water, vegetation and erosion and sediment control,” the statement said.

Recently, he has been acting for Pacific View Farm Queensland in relation to the development of Pacific View Estate, a major urban community development on the Gold Coast.

DibbsBarker managing partner Alan McArthur said Mr Baker-Jones will deepen the firm’s property sector capabilities.

“He will play a crucial role in supporting the growth of our Brisbane practice, and his arrival is particularly timely in light of the Palusczcuk government’s recent announcement of reforms to planning and environment laws in Queensland,” Mr McArthur said.

“The issue of climate change has also fallen under a particularly bright spotlight in recent years and we are delighted about the fact that Mark has such unique and widely respected expertise in this area, which will be relevant for so many of our clients in various industries.”
