The Governor in Council announced the appointment last week, with Mr Kidd’s new role commencing on 28 September.

Mr Kidd graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide in 1988 and later took study leave to complete his Masters of Law overseas at the University of Geneva.

Mr Kidd has practised as a barrister for 20 years, being admitted to the Victorian Bar in 2005 then appointed senior counsel in 2011 and then senior crown prosecutor in 2013.

Victorian Bar president James Peters QC congratulated Mr Kidd on his new role.

“His varied experience in the commercial litigation department of a major national law firm; as a solicitor with the Commonwealth DPP; at the Victorian Bar; as an International Prosecutor; and as a senior Crown Prosecutor – all make him an outstanding appointment as Chief Judge,” Mr Peters said.
