New Clyde & Co consultant strengthens Spanish ties

José Blanco joins global law firm Clyde & Co, in a move the firm hopes will increase engagement between Spanish and Australian companies.

Clyde & Co is eyeing the project and construction sector, with the appointment of José Blanco (pictured) as its new business development consultant. A former serving President of the Spanish Official Chamber of Commerce in Australia, Mr Blanco also served as a member of the Chamber's governing council for 25 years.

Mr Blanco has extensive experience in company cross-border activity between the Australian, Spanish and Latin American markets, where he has played an important role in building commercial links. He currently heads the Australia-Latin America Business Council as its chairman and previously served as the Deputy Chairman of the Australian Government’s Council on Australia Latin America Relations from 2001 to 2010.

According to David McElveney, head of Clyde & Co’s Projects & Construction Team (Australia), the firm hopes Mr Blanco’s appointment will leverage engagement with Spanish companies doing business in Australia.

"Spanish operators in Australia have a long and proud history of working on major projects. José's advisory role at the firm will further cement our commitment to working with those organisations here and abroad," Mr McElveney said.

Clyde & Co has seen expansion in recent months, taking on five partners and a 25-strong legal staff of the now defunct Australian insurance firm Lee & Lyons. In March the firm poached three lawyers from rival Norton Rose Fulbright for its Melbourne Office.

Clyde & Co opened in Australia in September 2012 with offices in Sydney and Perth. Since then it has grown to four offices and more than 150 staff across the country.
