Kiera Peacock, who is based in the litigation team at Marque, specialising in public and administrative law and who boasts “particular expertise” in electoral law, is the newest partner for the Sydney-based firm.

She joined Marque nine years ago as a paralegal whilst still a law student and, according to firm managing partner Michael Bradley, “has come through the ranks in super fast time”.

In a statement to Lawyers Weekly, the firm said that Ms Peacock recently ran the case in the Court of Disputed Returns challenging the elections of Josh Frydenberg and Gladys Liu in the 2019 federal election, which clarified the law around misleading electoral advertising.

“She also works for the Greens and other parties and independent MPs [and] a lot of [pro Bono] human rights work, including medevac cases for refugees on Nauru,” the firm noted.

Mr Bradley said the firm is “absolutely thrilled” to welcome Ms Peacock to the partnership ranks.

“She is a star in her own right, and it is fitting that her promotion makes our partnership a majority female one,” he said.

“It’s also a strong statement of our confidence in Marque’s future to be able to bring in a new partner at this particular time.”

Speaking about her new role, Ms Peacock said that Marque has provided her “with so many opportunities – working with amazing clients (commercial and NFP), creating law in the Court of Disputed Returns last year and as recently as this month litigating the fallout from the ‘Securency scandal’ in the High Court”.

“These opportunities are a testament to the quality of the [partners] and lawyers of the firm. I’m exceptionally excited to join the Marque partnership; to give back and to help it grow,” Ms Peacock concluded.

“The firm’s future looks bright.”
