Tucker & Cowen Solicitors gearing up with new senior appointments

Tucker & Cowen Solicitors is gearing up for the uptick in front-end and back-end work with two new senior appointments.

Tucker & Cowen has appointed Rupert Copeman-Hill as special counsel after he spent several years as a partner at international firms and as head of legal and compliance at an investment bank. He was previously special counsel at Cornwalls.

Managing partner of Tucker & Cowen, Richard Cowen, said they are privileged to have secured such senior talent which will add depth to the support “we can provide them both with front-end corporate/commercial work and with disputes/insolvency issues.”

Mr Copeman-Hill brings over 20 years of experience in corporate, commercial, banking and finance and restructuring transactional and advisory work at international firms in Brisbane, London and the Middle East.

He has acted for a diverse range of banks and financial institutions (including Islamic banks) in Australia and the Middle East, listed and unlisted companies, family businesses, directors and individuals in a range of industry sectors including financial services, real estate, industrial, manufacturing, telecommunications and aviation, before returning to practice in Brisbane in January 2020.

Notable transactions include advising CapitaLand Singapore on its US$75million share sale to Mubadala and the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund and acting for Bahrain Middle East Bank on its regulated voluntary takeover.

Tucker & Cowen has also appointed Ben Shaw as special counsel who was previously a partner at Dentons. Mr Shaw brings over 15 years of experience in insolvency and restructuring and commercial litigation.

Mr Shaw acts for and advises financiers, insolvency practitioners, directors and individuals in commercial disputes, and in the wide range of issues that arise from corporate distress. The firm said he is experienced in a range of industry sectors including financial services, agribusiness and mining.

Notable deals include acting for an Australian bank in connection with distressed facilities totalling circa $53 million, which included multiple proceedings in the Supreme and Federal Courts and advising an international bank and its appointed receivers in connection with the realisation of a herd of circa 15,000 livestock.
