DLA PIPER has appointed Dr Liu Wei as the new managing partner of its rapidly expanding Beijing office.

 
 

Liu has more than 20 years professional legal experience and is the joint head of DLA Piper’s Asia capital markets practice and heads up the firm’s china focus group.

Liu, a native of the PRC, is a PRC capital markets expert who has advised on more than 100 IPO listings, including the US$5.5 billion ($7 billion) listing of China Railway Group. He has advised on major Chinese enterprises fund-raising in international capital markets as well as foreign companies investing in the PRC.

He also has extensive regulatory experience at the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong where he was responsible for policy and supervision of red-chip shares, H-shares, B-shares, as well as co-ordination with the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Liu takes over the helm from Mark Williams who has stepped down from the position after 16 months. Williams will remain with the firm.
