THE INTERNATIONAL alliance partner of DLA Phillips Fox, DLA Piper, has welcomed Steven Liu as a new partner in the Beijing office.

A venture, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets lawyer, Liu comes to the firm from Heller Ehrman in Beijing, where he was a partner and member of the Asia business practice. He began his career at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he spent eight-and-half years. With strong ties to Silicon Valley, the hub for US venture capital and technology, Liu has extensive experience practising law in the US as well as China.

“[Liu’s] recruitment is a significant development for the Beijing office and an important step in advancing our strategic plan to expand our corporate capabilities as part of a larger, full-service China practice,” Mark Williams, managing partner of DLA Piper’s Beijing office, said. “His experience and reputation will enhance our existing transactional capabilities in China.”

Liu has substantial experience representing emerging growth, or start-up companies, mature public companies, investment banks and venture capital funds on a range of corporate legal transactions that include venture capital and PIPE financings, M&A transactions, and initial public offerings. He regularly advises clients on general corporate matters such as corporate governance and US Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure issues, has counselled several US companies launching joint ventures in China, as well as private and public companies in China.

In addition, Liu has worked on a number of cross-border transactions involving jurisdictions such as Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Mexico and Sweden. With experience in venture capital and strategic financings, Liu will be working with DLA Piper China’s venture capital and private equity team.
