FORMER F-111 navigator Paul Norris has been appointed as special counsel to Hopgood Ganims information technology and intellectual property practice.

Norris most recently practised in Melbourne as a barrister and established an IP practice for Baker & McKenzie in both Melbourne and Vietnam.

His legal experience spans 11 years, with a special interest in the pharmaceutical, luxury brands and aeronautical industries. Four years in Vietnam has help Norris develop a particular expertise in private international law throughout Asia.

The first eight years of Norris’ working life as an F-111 navigator was spent in the Royal Australian Air Force, and as head of the RAAF’s first operational software support unit, where he evaluated new electronic warfare systems for the F-111.

“I have always enjoyed working with technology,” Norris said. “Practising in this area of the law allows me to continue doing so, but from the negotiator’s side, which I find very rewarding.”

Norris’ appointment is the second in as many weeks for Hopgood Ganim, who in mid-January appointed Damian O’Connor as special counsel to its tax practice.
