Australian law firm Barry.Nilsson. has appointed three new principals.

The firm’s latest round of promotions includes the elevation of Dian Turner, Corrina Dowling and Alison Hay to principals. All appointments are effective 1 July 2022.

Based in Melbourne, Ms Turner specialises in public and product liability, and property damage.

According to a statement from Barry.Nilsson., she has extensive experience advising both insurer and self-insured clients on indemnity, quantum and liability issues related to claims across a number of industries, in particular labour hire, construction and infrastructure, sport leisure, entertainment and manufacturing.

Ms Dowling, who is also based in Melbourne, is described as an expert in employment practices liability claims.

She has helped lead Barry.Nilsson.’s national employment and safety team for the past four years and holds significant experience in assisting clients on a wide range of employment issues, including unfair dismissals, restraints of trade, bullying, unlawful discrimination and employment agreements.

Meanwhile, Ms Hay, who is based in Hobart, manages a broad range of claims, including public liability matters involving complex injury and abuse, property damage, professional indemnity and workers’ compensation.

Throughout her career, she has acted for insurers, insureds, self-insureds, underwriters and brokers with a special focus on construction, financial institutions, health care and local government.

Barry.Nilsson. chief executive Graeme Walsh congratulated the trio, noting that their appointments reflect the firm’s commitment to nurturing existing talent and fostering the next generation of leaders.

“In addition to their advanced technical ability, high standard of client service, and strong contribution to client relationship development, Dian, Corrina and Alison are being recognised for the leadership qualities they’ve consistently upheld within their individual roles and practice areas, and as part of the wider BN team,” Mr Walsh said.

“We are thrilled to be able to recognise their efforts and achievements in this way and look forward to watching their continued success as leaders of the firm.”

Further, Mr Walsh said the appointments bring the firm’s total number of principals to 35 across its practice areas nationally and its female representation at principal level to 34 per cent, above the national industry average of 30 per cent.
