Melbourne-based boutique firm KHQ Lawyers has promoted one to principal, one to special counsel, two to senior associate, and six to associate. All promotions were effective as of 1 July.

The firm’s new principal is Rachael Hocking, its new special counsel is Winning Wang, and Jessica Spring and Melanie Davey have both been made senior associates.

Speaking about Ms Hocking’s promotion, KHQ founder and managing director David Kelly said: “Rachael’s elevation acknowledges her superb technical skills, her specialist expertise and her pivotal role as a leader in our — now quite large — wills and estates team.

“It’s an immense achievement, and we couldn’t be happier for her.”

Regarding Ms Wang, KHQ director and head of family and relationship law Monica Blizzard said: “Winning has made great strides in her professional career over the past year, in particular in working on complex family law matters. She continues to impress.”

And KHQ director and head of corporate and commercial Andrew Walker said of Ms Davey and Ms Spring’s new roles: “This is well-deserved recognition of Mel and Jess’ hard work over the year, and we all wish them well for the next phase of their careers.”

Elsewhere, the six new associates are Ailin Lu, Andie Manolopoulos, Courtney Goodlet, Melanie Flower, Nikita Dang, Nikolce Petrovski, and Ryan Doherty.

“We understand there’s a long stretch between becoming a lawyer on admission and senior associate, particularly given the benchmark to become a senior associate is quite high,” Mr Kelly mused.

“KHQ is incredibly fortunate to have a deep well of talented, dedicated, client-focused professionals, who are all exceptional people and who make KHQ a great place to work. We want to recognise lawyers who are progressing well in their careers and to give them a launching pad from which to achieve their potential.”

“Cultivating talent and giving our people the guidance and support to develop both personally and professionally is a central tenet of our culture. Nothing is more rewarding or satisfying for the KHQ directors than seeing our people grow, move up and take that next step. We are proud to be a part of that journey.”
