Specialist personal injury firm Law Partners has expanded its institutional abuse practice, highlighting what it describes as a strong commitment to addressing “one of the most serious and enduring failures in Australian society”.

Leading the expanded team is Sheree Buchanan, who brings over a decade of experience in personal injury law.

Before joining Law Partners, Buchanan spent nine years at national plaintiff firm Shine Lawyers, where she most recently held the roles of special counsel and general manager.

Shane Butcher, partner at Law Partners, Buchanan’s appointment reflects the firm’s commitment to strengthening its services in this critical area and advancing broader systemic change.

“We’re expanding our institutional abuse practice and doubling down on this incredibly important area of law as we meet a growing and urgent need in our community,” Butcher said.

“We’re proud to welcome Sheree Buchanan, a highly respected leader and legal expert with a proven record in helping survivors navigate complexity and secure much-deserved compensation. Sheree’s appointment reflects our commitment to growing a practice that offers renewal and hope while driving systemic change.”

Speaking on her new role, Buchanan emphasised her deep commitment to the institutional abuse practice area and the importance of providing a safe, respectful space for survivors to pursue justice.

“Institutional child abuse is a profound breach of trust committed against the most vulnerable members of our society, and often hidden for years. Survivors have been silenced for far too long,” Buchanan noted.

“They deserve more than just legal representation; they deserve to be heard, believed, and supported. As a lawyer and mother of two young children, I feel a deep personal responsibility to advocate for those who were failed by the very institutions meant to protect them.”

Buchanan added: “I’m delighted to join Law Partners, a team which I’ve found shares this purpose and is ready to lead with integrity, empathy, and resolve. We’re ready to empower more survivors to come forward, hold institutions accountable, and contribute to building safer systems for future generations.”

This news follows the firm’s promotion of four new partners in response to its ongoing growth and expansion at the start of May.
