A new chapter is set to begin for the law faculty at the Australian Catholic University (ACU), with Professor Lidia Xynas (pictured) appointed as the incoming dean of law. She will commence her role in April 2026 at ACU’s Melbourne campus.

Xynas joins ACU from Victoria University, where she spent more than a decade shaping legal education, most recently serving five years as dean of law at Victoria Law School.

In a statement, ACU expressed how she holds a “strong track record” leading innovation across legal education and delivering measurable improvements in both student outcomes and institutional performance.

Over the course of her career, Xynas has held a range of senior academic leadership positions, with experience spanning governance, law, accounting, and taxation.

She has been closely involved in strategic and operational matters, including course planning, admissions leadership, and compliance processes.

The university highlighted her pivotal role in guiding Victoria University’s law degree reaccreditation with the Victorian Legal Admissions Board, securing successful outcomes that ensured the programs met rigorous accreditation standards.

Executive dean of law and business, Professor David Smith, hailed Xynas as a standout appointment, noting that she will bring sharp, decisive leadership to the law discipline and drive the university’s mission and strategic agenda forward.

“Professor Xynas will be an outstanding addition to ACU, providing strong leadership for our law discipline, supporting our staff and students, and contributing meaningfully to our broader mission and strategic priorities,” Smith said.
