Two of Australia’s leading entertainment lawyers – behind some of the nation’s biggest global acts, including RÜFÜS DU SOL, Dom Dolla, The Veronicas, and the composer of Bluey – have joined forces to launch a specialist firm.
Two Billboard-recognised lawyers, who have represented some of Australia’s biggest global acts, have joined forces to launch a specialist entertainment, music, and media law firm.
Rob Glass and Julian Hewitt have launched Hewitt Glass, a Sydney-based practice advising top-tier talent across the entertainment sector, with the pair serving as managing partners.
With more than four decades of combined experience across the entertainment sector, Glass and Hewitt have advised on more than $300 million in entertainment and media transactions over the past three years, acting for artists, executives, and companies across Australia and internationally.
The firm already boasts a star-studded client base, representing some of Australia’s best-known artists, festivals, and entertainment figures.
Its clients span major music acts, including RÜFÜS DU SOL, Dom Dolla, Matt Corby, Tones And I, and The Veronicas, as well as leading festival Beyond the Valley, television and media personalities Abbie Chatfield and Dylan Alcott, and Bluey composer Joff Bush.
In a statement, the pair shared that the launch comes as Australian musicians, festivals, and entertainment businesses continue to expand their international reach, creating growing demand for legal advisers with expertise in cross-border transactions, intellectual property, rights management, and complex commercial deals.
Speaking about the new venture, Glass said the unprecedented global success of Australian artists – far beyond what would have been imaginable a decade ago – has brought greater legal and commercial complexity, requiring increasingly specialist advice.
“Australian artists and entertainment businesses are achieving success on a scale that would have been difficult to imagine even a decade ago,” Glass said.
“As those careers and businesses become more sophisticated, the legal and commercial challenges become more complex as well. We created Hewitt Glass to provide specialist advice that reflects the realities of today’s global entertainment market.”
The firm will span three core practice areas – music, entertainment, and M&A and corporate advisory – advising on everything from recording and publishing agreements and touring deals to catalogue acquisitions, intellectual property strategy, entertainment financing, corporate transactions, and the legal implications of AI.
Hewitt said the entertainment industry has moved well beyond traditional record deals, with creators increasingly focused on protecting and maximising the long-term value of their intellectual property, a shift the firm is positioned to support.
“Artists, creators and rights holders are thinking more strategically about ownership, growth and long-term value creation than ever before,” Hewitt said.
“Our goal is to help clients navigate that environment with advice that combines deep entertainment industry knowledge with strong commercial and corporate expertise.”
Glass said: “The opportunities for artists and entertainment businesses have never been greater, but neither has the complexity. We want to be the trusted advisers helping clients build lasting value in a rapidly evolving global market.”
