John Travolta's lawyer has borrowed a famous film line to ridicule the claims of the actor's alleged extortionists.

Lawyer Michael McDermott, who is representing Travolta against two Bahamas nationals who are accused of exhorting $US25 million ($27 million) from Travolta, exclaimed in an exchange: "You can't handle the truth" - a line made famous by the movie A Few Good Men.

Defence counsel Murrio Ducille, who is representing the men who have been accused of attempting to use medical documents surrounding the death of the actor's son, Jett, in January, had accused McDermott of being deceptive, reported ninemsn news.

"From the beginning [McDermott] has been a deceptive individual and he carries his deception right to the witness box ... I'm suggesting you gave birth to extortion," he said.

But McDermott was quick in his response: "I'm suggesting that you can't handle the truth and you don't want to handle the truth!" he said.

Folklaw wonders whether McDermott will be offered a cameo role in Travolta's next film.
