MINTER Ellison has poached tax specialist David Pratley from Corrs Chambers Westgarth and appointed him partner in its Sydney office.

An income and capital gains tax specialist, Pratley’s focus is corporate and international tax, advising clients involved in mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganisations, debt and equity capital raisings and cross-border investment.

At Corrs, Pratley worked for major Australian and multinational clients in financial services, real estate, private equity, energy and resources sectors. He has also handled large scale ATO audits and disputes for clients.

Also a qualified charter accountant, Pratley has more than 16 years of tax experiences, working for seven years with Ernst & Young;s international tax division.

Rhys Guild, head of Minter Ellison’s Australasian tax group, said Pratley had already worked with a number of Minter’s key clients.

“[He] is already well known to us and has the advantage of also having worked with and being familiar with a number of our key clients,” he said.

“He is an excellent tax lawyer who is very well regarded by clients and advisers alike for his strong technical expertise and commercial approach to finding solutions.”

Minter’s tax practice is run as an integrated Australasian practice, with a team of more than 60 tax specialists in Australia. Over the past four years, the practice has recorded almost 200 per cent growth in revenue. It is the largest law firm tax practice in Australia in terms of both size and revenue.
