Maurice Blackburn has appointed seven lawyers to principal level following double-digit growth last year.

New partners have been appointed in the Brisbane, Melbourne, Maroochydore, Dandenong and Ringwood offices, with five associates moving to senior associate level in Melbourne, Southport, Frankston and Reservoir, the firm said.

“These appointments reflect the considerable talent we have in the firm and the fact that we are growing strongly in Queensland and other states in the personal injuries area,” firm CEO Greg Tucker said.

Tucker said the firm has achieved double-digit organic growth over the past three years, opening offices in Townsville, Frankston, Mildura and Wangaratta.

The firm is also committed to servicing South West of Victoria with a visiting office in Warrnambool, he said.

“Our growth has been achieved in the context of the global economic downturn and other challenges facing plaintiff law firms," Tucker said.

More than half of the lawyers promoted in the firm are women and three of the principals and one senior associate promoted recently work part time while caring for young children.

In addition to internal promotions, the firm has appointed Steve Harris to the role of general counsel. He will lead the commercial litigation team in Melbourne. Harris formerly led Harris Legal, a general commercial and litigation practice.
