MICHAEL Jackson's mother was granted permanent custody of the late pop star's children yesterday, ending one of the court battles that had been brewing since his death.

Los Angeles COunty Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved the agreement, which was reached last week by the lawyers for Katherine Jackson, Michael Jackson's mother, and Debbie Rowe, the mother of the two older children. The children will be raised by their grandmother and Rowe is allowed visitation and legal parental rights.

Jackson has stated in his 2002 will that he wanted his mother to care for the three children, including Prince Michael Jr, 12, Paris Michael Katherine, 11, and his youngest child, Prince Michael II, 7, also known as Blanket.

The judge granted Katherine Jackson the full amount she requested for herself, the Los Angeles Times reports, but he reduced the amount the attorneys asked for the children, arguing some of it appeared unnecessary.

The fate of Jackson's estate, however, remains unknown. Justice Beckloff extended the temporary powers of the administrators, music executive John McClain and entertainment lawyer John Branca, for an additional 60 days.
