Calum Henderson (pictured), a specialist competition and consumer protection lawyer, joins Landers after taking almost a year off due to illness.

Henderson was most recently at Johnson Winter & Slattery, leaving the partnership in December 2012. He was also previously a partner with Norton Rose Fulbright and practised at the Bar for two years between 1998 and 2000.

In addition to advising clients on commercial transactions, mergers and joint ventures, Henderson's experience includes conducting regulatory and internal investigations; defending enforcement proceedings and claims for damages; making applications for immunity and leniency for contraventions, and assisting with consumer law issues.

Commenting at the time of his appointment, Henderson said competition law was a major concern for general counsels.

"A recent survey of companies operating in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the US reported that around half have been the subject of at least one investigation by competition authorities - often across multiple jurisdictions,” he said.

“General counsel identified the biggest risks as vertical agreements with suppliers, customers and competitors. Cartel behaviour was seen as a secondary priority.

“These findings certainly accord with my experience. While more blatant cartel conduct is still very much part of the agenda, many clients are finding themselves with very real problems arising out of their everyday transactions."

Henderson started with Landers this month.
