Peter Monk (pictured), DLA’s managing partner in Melbourne, starts at Hive Legal today (9 May) as a principal.

Monk had been a corporate partner at DLA for seven years and a partner at Minters for 11 years prior to that.

Lawyers Weekly broke the story in February that corporate partners Mitzi Gilligan from Minters and Simon Davidson from DLA had ditched their respective firms to start Hive Legal.

Gilligan and Davidson worked at Minters together from 2000 to 2008. Monk was also a partner at Minters at that time, quitting the firm for DLA in 2007.

Monk said he has a long-standing relationship with the founders of Hive. “I have worked with the Hive team for many years,” he said in a statement.

Monk joined DLA as head of the firm’s corporate practice in the Middle East. He relocated to Melbourne in 2010 and helped to facilitate the DLA Piper and DLA Phillips Fox merger in 2011 and, more recently, played an integral role in the launch of the firm’s Indonesia practice.

Monk also led the launch of Minters’ practices in Indonesia and Thailand when he worked there as a partner.
