David O’Farrell (pictured) had been a partner at Minter Ellison in Queensland for eight years and, prior to that, a senior associate at Ashurst (then Blake Dawson).

He acts for secured financiers, insolvency practitioners, creditors and investors in both contentious and non-contentious matters across the property, construction, agribusiness, funds management and retail sectors.

HWL poached another two partners for the firm’s restructuring and insolvency practice earlier this year: former Gadens partner Matthew Broderick and former Minters special counsel Richard Johnson, who was appointed as a partner in HWL’s Perth office.

HWL has also lost partners in the wake of its acquisition of Kelly & Co in July, including commercial litigation partner Rob Kennett, transport partner Danella Wilmshurst and financial services partner Scott Charaneka, who quit to become the head of superannuation and wealth management at Thomson Geer.
