CommBar president fends off election challenge
The Commercial Bar Association of Victoria (CommBar) has voted in Philip Crutchfield QC as president in its first election.
CommBar has not held elections for president, senior vice-president or junior vice-president since its establishment in 1994.
Crutchfield, who was appointed president in 2012, beat off a challenge by Melbourne silk Caroline Kenny QC. If elected, Kenny would have been CommBar’s first female president.
Stewart Anderson QC also managed to retain his role as senior-vice president. Anderson was up against former junior vice-president Caroline Kirton QC, who now no longer sits on CommBar’s executive committee.
Wendy Harris QC has replaced Kirton as junior vice-president. Ian Percy has been appointed as treasurer.
CommBar’s newly-elected executive committee also includes: Caroline Kenny QC, Joshua Wilson QC, Albert Monichino QC, Kathleen Foley, Caryn Van Proctor, Elizabeth Boros and Anna Robertson.
Voting via an electronic ballot closed yesterday (19 November), ahead of CommBar’s annual general meeting held last night.
CommBar currently has more than 600 members.
