Former barrister at Francis Burt Chambers Alan Troy was named judge of the District Court of Western Australia, while silk David Kent has joined the Queensland District Court as a judge.

The president of the Law Society of Western Australia, Elizabeth Needham, said: "I have no doubt Mr Troy will prove to be a fine Judge of the District Court. He brings a wealth of experience to the position and is well regarded within the legal profession."

Judge Kent was called to the bar in 1989 and has experience in criminal law, personal injury matters, industrial hearings, and in the areas of administrative and commercial law.

He appeared on behalf of the State Government at the Commonwealth Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse and last year served as Queensland’s Acting Commissioner of the Crime and Corruption Commission.

“I think Judge Kent is an exceptional choice and brings more than 25 years of experience to his role on the bench,’’ said Amelia Hodge, CEO at the Law Society of Queensland.
