“Mr Mossop's experience in his current role as associate judge, along with his experience in his former roles as an ACT magistrate and as a barrister at the ACT bar, means he is well equipped for this new role, with expertise in both the civil and criminal jurisdictions,” Mr Ramsay said, according to The Canberra Times.
“Mr Mossop has a proven track record as associate judge in discharging a significant proportion of the ACT Supreme Court's civil caseload.”
This sentiment was echoed by ACT Law Society president Sarah Avery.
“His honour’s many years of experience in the law as a barrister and magistrate, and at the Supreme Court itself as master and associate judge, have made him a well-respected figure in the Canberra legal community,” she said.
“This timely announcement will ensure a smooth transition on the retirement of Justice Refshauge in May next year.
“The law society warmly congratulates his honour on his appointment.”
