Judicial appointments for the Supreme Court of Queensland
Queensland Attorney-General and Justice Minister Yvette D'Ath has announced two appointments in the Supreme Court.
Queensland Supreme Court judge Ann Lyons will be made the next senior judge administrator for the state, replacing outgoing judge Justice John Byrne who will retire from judicial office in August.
“Justice Lyons will be responsible for managing the trial division of the Supreme Court,” Ms D’Ath said.
“I thank Justice Byrne again for his contribution, and the advance notice he provided, to ensure we have time for a smooth transition to take place.”
The Attorney-General has also announced that Helen Bowskill QC will be appointed to Supreme Court bench in the trial division early next month.
Judge Bowskill has served on the bench of the District Court since 2014. She was called to the bar in 1998 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013.
“Judge Helen Bowskill QC will take up her post on 10 July, and I will move quickly to fill the vacancy this creates in the District Court,” Ms D'Ath said.
Mrs D’Ath thanked the members of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Panel for their consideration of these appointments.
