A member of the Victorian Bar for over two decades has been declared the new coroner of the Coroners Court of Victoria.
Simon McGregor has taken on the role, replacing Coronor Peter White who is set to retire in November.
Throughout his career, Mr McGregor has appeared in a range of matters, including the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and as counsel assisting the Coroner in a number of inquests, including deaths in custody, a statement from the Attorney-General’s office said.
Further, it was noted that Mr McGregor has also “appeared before the Court of Appeal, Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Courts in a variety of matters, including administrative law, professional negligence and personal injury law, as well as human rights, discrimination and commercial law”.
“Mr McGregor has extensive experience as a barrister and will make a valuable addition to the Coroners Court of Victoria,” Mr Pakula said.
“I congratulate him on his appointment, and thank Coroner Peter White for his contribution over the past 13 years.”
